ABOUT
Intelligent and unified orchestration mechanisms need to be applied for the automated placement of the 5G-ready applications and the creation and maintenance of the required network slices. MATILDA aimed to realize an innovative framework for the design, development and orchestration of 5G-ready applications, as well as virtual and physical network functions and network services.
PROJECT OBJECTIVES AND HIGHLIGHTS
The MATILDA framework proposed the adoption of a unified programmability model, the definition of proper abstractions and the creation of an open development environment that may be used by application as well as network functions developers. The MATILA project included:
- Intelligent and unified orchestration mechanisms, as well as deployment and runtime policies enforcement;
- Multi-site management of the cloud/edge computing and IoT resources;
- Lifecycle management of the supported Virtual Network Functions Forwarding Graphs (VNF-FGs), as well as a set of network management activities;
- Network and application-oriented analytics and profiling mechanisms.
Lastly, it offered a demonstration of five vertical applications in different domains, which were the final outcome of the project.
WHAT WE HAVE ACHIEVED/OUR ROLE
Incelligent, based on its expertise in data analytics/ machine learning and the telecom sector was involved in (a) the development of analytics mechanisms, as well as (b) the demonstration activities. More specifically, our team was participated jointly with ITALTEL in the “High Resolution Media on Demand Vertical with Smart Retail Venues’ Integration” demo combining the functionalities of two systems, to provide 5G Personal Assistance in Crowded Events (“5GPACE”). These functionalities included offering end-users Immersive Media Services combined with machine learning-based personal retail recommendations.
